Build A Sundae With Cool Treats

Cool Treats Global Design Project

My kids are currently obsessed with ice cream sandwiches. This is because I’m trying a new strategy to help them overcome some behaviors that drive me crazy. Instead of taking things away they are earning ice cream sandwiches. It takes them about a week to earn one, but it has been working tremendously well. And we have a much calmer house!

This card was inspired by the sketch challenge this week at the Global Design Project.

I don’t typically create monochromatic cards, but it was interesting to try one. I do like the rich razzleberry and sweet sugarplum together. The sprinkles from the Frozen Treats framelits are so tiny, but they do add that extra bit of detail.

Stampin' Up Cool Treats

Think back to the time when you heard the distant music of the ice cream man playing. As a child you bolted to find some money so you could beat him out to the street.

As a parent, the sound of the ice cream man is not quite as exciting. but maybe stamping little popsicles and ice cream cones is. It is for me anyway!

And tiny embellishments are so fun. I stayed away from them for a long time, but now I use them a lot. They add adorable little detail to any card!

Strawberries For Days Global Design Project Card

Global Design Project Cool Treats

One of our all time favorite books around here is The Big Hungry Bear. If you haven’t heard of this one go find it right now. It’s about a little mouse who finds a red, ripe strawberry, and has to hide it from the big, hungry bear. I’ve been reading this book to my kids for 11 years now and I don’t get tired of this one.

This card is a tribute to that book and a chance to play along with the Global Design Project.

CARD MAKING TIPS

  • It’s fun to CASE others work, pulling layout or color ideas to make your own card. Try it out at the Global Design Project, they have a new challenge each week.
  • Doilies don’t have to be used whole. Try cutting them into different shapes as you layer.
  • The burlap ribbon is fun to pull apart and use to make messy loops on your card.

I am not a cold weather person.

Even though I grew up in PA and winter was never complete without the building of an igloo, which took hours, out in the freezing cold. So cold that when we finally came inside I would say that I was melting when the tingling started in my fingers and toes.

Now I prefer cuddling inside with my warm sweaters and hot cup of coffee in my hands while Dan goes out to play in the snow with the kids.

Not that it snows much here in NC. In fact, this winter has been so delightfully mild!

It helps that we missed the coldest weekend while we were enjoying summer in South Africa.

This color combo reminds me of icy weather conditions, but it’s still puts a smile on my face!

7 Reasons Why You Should Use Doilies on Your Next Handmade Card

Carried Away Designer Series Paper

Stampin’ Up embellishments are often overlooked in favor of the beautiful stamps and papers. But embellishments can change the look of your card instantly, in a good way. Doilies are one of the ways to add some interest to your next card. Here are seven ways why you should try one out.

  1. Color – Whether you want bold and bright, shiny and metallic, or subtle and dainty, there are doilies for you.
  2. Texture – Do a search on Pinterest for living room decor and you will quickly notice that the rooms that stand out have lot’s of different textures. By using pillows, rugs, baskets, and other decor items, texture stands out. The same thing happens on a smaller scale when you add different textures to your cards.
  3. Layering – It is possible to go overboard on layers, but don’t be afraid to try it out. It’s almost better to have more than not enough when it comes to layering. The delicate white doilies are subtle enough to add some oomph, but not go overboard.
  4. Unique – Doilies on cards sounds kind of weird at first, but once you try it you’ll want to use them on every card.
  5. Versatile – Try using doilies whole, cut in half, or cut in pieces. Each shape adds a different look to your cards.
  6. Inexpensive – $3-$6 for each pack of doilies goes a long way, especially if you cut them up.
  7. Easy to use – Just put some adhesive on the back and stick it on. You can use mini glue dots or the fine tip glue pen for easy adhering.

Melon Mambo for an Offbeat Christmas Card

Offbeat Stampin Up Christmas

To my daughter pink is everything! It’s interesting that she still ended up with pink as her favorite because she has two older brothers. Of course, we all were so excited that she was a girl we kind of surrounded her with pink.

This card would be right up her alley with the splash of melon mambo. It’s an unexpected color combo for a Christmas card, which makes it unique. You will wow the person you send it to! And I am in love with these wooden embellishments. This ribbon is included in the Tin of Tags project kit.

CARD MAKING TIPS

  • Embellishments are a fun, inexpensive way to add some excitement to your cards. Try out some twine or sequins on your next project.
  • Stamp a background using the same color stampin’ pad as your cardstock.
  • The Tin of Tags Project Kit doesn’t have to be used just for tags. The embellishments on this card are all from that kit.
